Just over ten and a half million tourists (10,537,983 ) visited the Canary Islands in 2010.
If trends continue towards the end of 2011 the Canary Islands may once again see visitor numners top twelve million for all of 2011.
The UK market is the biggest performer it recorded to be an increase of 15.10% compared to August 2010 with a total number of 323,733 visitors, followed by Germany with 13.66% increase and 191 056 visitors .
The established markets like Britain and Germany continue to show positive figures and help offset fears about domestic visitor numbers whilst the Canary Islands government look at ways of fostering new markets like Poland, Italy and Romania for the quieter Summer periods

Tourism up 15%+ for 2011
Todate, November 20th 2011 we can report visitor numbers grew to Gran Canaria, by 14.25% this year.
Domestic tourism saw an 11.73% increase in September with 175,334 Spanish tourists visiting the Island while the foriegn tourists numbers todate for this year are 1,992,635 which is a 15.86% increase over 2010.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Government of Canary, Ricardo Fernández de la Puente Armas claims that the recent stability and growth will be challenged with increasing competition from other destinations in the medium term future.
