There are three core types of Police service.
The local Police "Policia Local" are essentially "traffic cops" as they say in U.S.A. and U.K.
Policia International are what most people call regular police.
There is actually nothing International about them at all. but that is the rather misleading name used out here for regular police. If you need to make a complaint, register or in any way connected with a crime then these are the police you will be talking to.

The third core group of Police are the Gaurdia Civil who deal with anything that most law abiding people would classify as organized crime, they have helicopters, fast boats and yes they pose smoking cigars sometimes, you get the picture
Unconfirmed sources report a new fourth type of police force now exists. As this may be just a new uniform we are not saying more here until we know a little more, apparently they may be similar to some form of crowd control force is reports of their uniforms, all red with white helmets turn out to be true.
