Spain 2009 now has nearly as many unsold homes as the USA, that´s a lot!
Gran Canaria is not immune from this excess although things are slightly smaller scale here.
Most analysts say Spain built too many houses, accounting for around 31% all all new builds in Europe since 1999.
Whilst the standard of Spains housing stock was not comparable to many leadning European nations back in the 1990´s it is the financing of this expansion which many say is about to come home to roost.
Early 2010 will really start to tell on the Spanish economy, particularly the housing market.
There are dozens of housing experts specialising in the European - Spainish markets, most of them write excessively about nothing particularly useful, bundle all thier notes into a pile and publish them as a book.
Some even try to say they don´t sell properties themselves, most would bet a few pence that they do however have close ties with those that do, so who´s first to hear about a new real bargin(?).
Either way that line is useually the way you get inticed to part with your monry isn´t it
