The Canary Islands remain the highest-grossing community with foreign tourists
February 2013 saw the Canary Islands as the No1 destination Spanish receiving foreign tourist spending, which grew by 4.7% and reached 998 million euros despite the lower number of visitors. the largest sources of earnings was from Norwegian and British visitors.
This increase in earnings came despite the 1.3% drop in foreign tourist arrivals in the first two months of 2013, to 5.5 million, Spanish commentators attribute some of the rise to a drop in the visitors numbers to Italy due to it's recent troubles politically.
February 2013 saw the tenth consecutive month of rising spending and where tourist arrivals remained over the same month of 2012, international tourists spent, in Spain 2,754 million euros, up 3.8%.
Norwegian tourists spending in February increased by 12.2% to € 411 million and 15% to 816 million in the first two months of the year.
The French contributed to another big increase in tourist number, fourth position in spending with 21.3% more than in February to 288 million and a 26.5% increase to 560 million in the full year.
