It takes the Spanish system six months to take your name from one list ( a list of people who live in one area, the official town hall list) and put it on another list; the list of people who can vote in the same area.
In the meantime you can't vote anymore.
But hey, it's not that important, it's only your right to vote!
I was personally pissed off to discover this so it is with deep seated dissatisfaction that I say If the life blood of a democracy is voter numbers, Spain has severely clogged arteries., it's pathetic!
In this year 2015 England will celebrate 800 years since the Magna Carta.
Spain, on the other hand, this year 2015 is now working on the details of introducing a Magna Carta, perhaps they can incorporate something like "we must make all reasonable efforts to ensure that those who would otherwise have the capacity to vote but are denied by our own pathetic inefficiencies should be given the right to vote regardless of any small minded bureaucratic idiot who says otherwise"
I made that clause quite long, just the way so many Spanish seem to like it.
