Sources say that Spanish TV Channel 4 in Madrid have been accused of copyright infringment over football reality show planned for this summer to be aired starting 26 April 2010
During a meeting between the Director of Webica Ltd and the owners of the English Newspaper the Canary News at Cafe Florin in Playa del Ingles a chance observation of one of the "online newspapers" , maspalomasahora.com revealed an advertisement which caught the eye of one of our researches a Doina Martin.
The advertisement was about the open castings for a new reality show based on a football team scenario being produced by MONO FILMS S.L.(Miguel Menendez de Zubillaga) and the broadcaster TV Channel 4 in Madrid (Javier Garcia Burgos and Eugenia Cimas) .
"The researcher was hyterical" said John Mulkearns ( M.D. Webica), she interrupted our meeting crying "that's mine, I wrote this".
More concerned our reporting the news than making the news we continued our meeting and decided to follow this storey later.
The researcher claimed that the similarities were so strong between her previously copyrighted version of a reality show based on a football team scenario and that reported bt crackstv.com that she immediately contacted the SGAE (Spanish Author Society).
Doina Martin, born in Rumania, living in Gran Canaria claims that the TV Channel 4 reality show was first written by her and was submitted into a SGAE contest under non disclosure rules and her agent / lawyer in Canada Ron Atkey (crescentintertrade.com) has advised her to proceed with a claim for copyright infringement against the producer and broadcaster.
With the World Cup due to start later this year all our eyes will be on Football and Football shows later this year.
(The latest we hear is that TV producers in Canada have confirmed the similarities are strong enough to warrant proceedings however it is hoped that an amicable agreement / settlement may be reached between the parties in the very near future.)
