Most Television stations weather forecasts for Maspalomas Gran Canaria are really for Las Palmas in the north of the Island

BBC vs ITV vs CNN vs SKY
The BBC, ABC, CNN do not report on the south, which is where 90% of holiday makers head for, so their forecasts are particularly wrong for Playa del Ingles in the south of Gran Canaria.

Too Far from the Beach
If we take the BBC as an example, their weather reports and predictions for the Canary Islands seem to center on Tenerife, an Island about an 100Km to the North of Las Palmas and a long way from Playa del Ingles.

Mini Continent Oasis of Sunlight
The reason they are inaccurate is due to the winds and mountains, both of which have a considerable effect on local temperatures.
The weather within Gran Canaria is quite different between the north and south of the Island

Rare Rainbows
It rains much more often in Las Palmas the capitol than it does in the south.
Quite often the south of this Island tends to be 3 or 4 degrees centigrade warmer than the north of the Island, the south get around 7-10 days of rain each year.

The South is noticably warmer
When you see a weather forecast for the Canary Islands you sometimes need to add 3 or 4 degrees for Playa del Ingles, however you always need to add at least 2 degrees centigrade to the Las Palmas temperature.

We find these guys pretty accurate for air temperatures, however you need to add a few degrees to get the direct sunlight temperature





This is from a weather station in Arguineguin, about 15 minutes drive from Playa del Ingles, it´s the most accurate information we know of for this part of the Island.
