Record Unemployment in Gran Canaria
We reported that the actual unemployment figure was nearly five or six percent higher than predicted back in July 2009.
Depending which figures and which predictions, either way itwas looking very bad for 2010.
David Vegara, the Secretary of State for the Economy has issued revised forecasts since his forcasts predicting around sixteen percent (16%) in the summer of 2009.
The real figures for the summer of 2009 for the Canary Islands was around twenty two percent (22%) and was predicted then that it may go as high as twenty six percent (26%) before the 3rd quarter of 2010.
Well it reached 26% and carried on to just over 28.5% by the end of October 2010.
Well here we are now in December 2010 and the officla figures are closer to 29%
Cruel Summer for many Canarians
The official figures for several municipalities in Gran Canaria are closer to 34%, the unoffical figures are fantastic, with some saying the reality today late december 2010 is 1 in 2 people have no work, with thousands of families without any earned income to start 2011 the cruel consequences of the recession are very severe
