We list the most popular "forgein" Websites across the canary Islands and compare their popularity and effectiveness as advertising platforms to the 12 annual million visitors to these Islands.
We use Alexa.com, (the experts choice) and look at both the World rankings of each Website and which country produces the most visitors for each.

We then go on to explain, with examples, of how new technologies are providing greater direct access into the foriegn spending markets that underpin the tourist industry in the Canary Islands.
Our recommendation -
In our opinion these new opportunities can be realised through Websites like Gran-Canarias.info which offers international visitors access to local content in their own language.
The Canary Islands faces stiff competition from other holiday resorts and Gran-Canarias.info represents a new advertising opportunity to reach a significant percentage of those 12 million annual visitors to these Islands each year.

Massive Untapped resource
The big hitters clearly remain the Spanish media sites, with Television and Newspapers leading the list. These site only work in Spanish, clearly, so whilst they are very popular they are incapable fo reaching an international audience in the Canary Islands, and subsequently unable to exploit the benefits of advertising to large foriegn markets provided by the annual visitor number.
Check out Gran-Canarias.info; again in our opinion it is the only candidate that has a relatively high world ranking abd is both, capable of reaching an international audience ( English, Spanish and German) and is highly ranked in Spain, i.e. viewed by English and German visitors when in Spain; or more specifically viewed by English and Germans when in the Canary Islands.
After extensive research the other column shows the biggest "foriegn" hitters in the Canary Islands shows the German site gran-canaria-reisen.eu leading, with a Global ranking of around 400,000. This is the most popular foriegn language Canarian sites, whilst it has a reasonalbe ranking in Germany ( about 20,000) it has no signiifcant ranking in Spain or more specifically the Canary Islands themselves.
German Sites occupy the No1 and No2 positions
Second position goes to another German Website, grancanariaole.de, the online German newspaper, packed with news this professional looking site has an Alexa ranking of under 550,000, making it a clear winner ahead of a small bunch of Websites battling for third position in the world rankings in the Canary Islands. However once again grancanariaole.de has no significant ranking in Spain, and withe a position of around 60,000 in Germany it's content clearly only reflects an occassionaly interest for Germans living in Germany.
