In Gran Canaria there is no legal requirement to have a contract when you as a Tenant rent an apartment or when you as a landlord rent out an partment.
This is madness but the legal system here has alot of catching up to do when compaired ot northern Europe.
That said many do have contracts and those contract are legal documents. They can be produced as evidence in court and can be used to prosecute or defend an action.
